The Tragic Hero Of Marcus Junius Brutus Minor Essay

Marina Senseney Eng. ll / 4th block October 27, 2015 Tragic hero Marcus Junius Brutus Minor was the son of Marcus Junius Brutus Maior and Servilia Caepionis. His father was killed by Pompey the Great in dubious circumstances after he had taken part in the rebellion of Lepidus; his mother was the half-sister of Cato the Younger, and later Julius Caesar s mistress. Some sources refer to the possibility of Caesar being his real father,despite Caesar s being only 15 years old when Brutus was born. Brutus uncle, Quintus Servilius Caepio, adopted him in about 59 BC, and Brutus was known officially for a time as Quintus Servilius Caepio Brutus before he reverted to using his birth-name. Following Caesar s assassination in 44 BC, Brutus revived his adoptive name in order to illustrate his links to another famous tyrannicide, Gaius Servilius Ahala, from whom he was descended. Brutus held his uncle in high regard and his political career started when he became an assistant to Cato, during his governorship of Cyprus. During this time, he enriched himself by lending money at high rates of interest. Brutus was also active in the province of Cilicia, in the year before Cicero was proconsul there; Cicero documents how Brutus profited from moneylending to the provincials in his Letters. He returned to Rome a rich man, where he married Claudia Pulchra. From his first appearance in the Senate, Brutus aligned with the Optimates (the conservative faction) against the First Triumvirate

Funding For Special Needs Education - 946 Words

Do you know anyone in your family, a friend, co-worker or even a person at school with learning disabilities? What if I told you, the help that person need to learn better and assist them with their disabilities would be taken away from them. Around the country budgets cut have been made, especially harming the programs for special needs students. The total amount that has been cut cross nation from this program, is ridiculous, $578,892,762 (www.special-education-degree.net). Here in Illinois, we have been one of the states that s been most struck by this budget cut. The progressillinois.com has said â€Å"over the summer they announced that $42 million cuts... And another cut was announced for 12 million†. Some think the funding for special needs education shouldn’t be raised, however, they should give more funding for special needs education because it will give them more opportunities to advance in higher education, improve their social skills and help them thrive later on in life. Now tell me do you think it is fair to take away money from student who just want to learn? For a start, children with a disability already face so much, and now have to deal with their programs being cut. I know how hard is it for these students, I have a godson who has autism. Personal Narrative free essay sample

Sunday was always our book buying day, my father’s and I. He would take me over to the Carousel Mall every Sunday and let me walk through all the bookshelves while he read his newspaper and drank coffee and then we would sit side by side and read in silence. Then after awhile he would ask me which one out of my large pile of books I liked best, if any at all and I would choose. Sometimes if I couldn’t decide between two and he could tell I really would love to read both he would give in and buy me both books, but back then the books I wanted were no more than seven dollars. In this way, my father encouraged me to read, he never discouraged me by saying what my mom often did, which was, â€Å"Why are you reading constantly? Get outside, stop living in fantasy. I followed my mom’s plan and schedules for me religiously because I did not want to disappoint my mother. Also, I promised to stay away from my friends in order to reduce times spend hanging out with them. It was a waste of time that could be better used for learning. After following her recipe for learning my English skill improved. However my mom was not pleased enough with my development. When I was twelve, my relatives introduced my mom to Chinese Christian School and my explained to her that going to America was a more efficient way to learn this language. My uncle stated that coming to the U. S. would be more than just an education, it will also be a life-changing experience. You could learn about the other countries’ culture and religions, government policy and society, educates and environmental advantages. My uncle also said that it would be a good challenge to experience the turning point from a teenager to a mature and responsible adult. He thoroughly explained the policy and teaching method and materials of this school to my mom. My mom wanted to learn more about this school in order to make the right decision for me. When I heard about the conservation, I was touched by my mom’s ending love deeply, and I decided to study hard and not fail her expectation on me. After my mom and uncle had long conversation and discussions about studying abroad for about a year, she asked for my opinion and my desired in life. I replied that I wanted to be a successful person so that I can repay you in the future. She discussed with me about this situation for a long time. I was not willing to accept this valuable opportunity at first because I did not want to leave my family and friends, and I was afraid of traveling alone. My mom explained to me and persuaded me to give it a try. I still remembered what she said to me and convinced me to change my decision, she said â€Å"Son, this is an incredible chance for you to improve yourself to a higher level. When I was little, we did not have the money so I studied very hard until I got to this position in the company. If I had the chance like you do, I would have been a higher management level than now. I hope you will take this opportunity seriously because this chance will benefits your life more than anything I can do for you here in Hong Kong. † After I heard about this, I was touched from my heart; therefore I promised her that I will be successful after I graduated from college and become the first high education scholar in my family. I decided to overcome my fear of traveling alone and speaking an unfamiliar language in order to prove my declaration to my mom. I will not waste her precise money because I understand that if she save this abundant amount of money, she would have a better and less stressful life. I left my hometown at my thirteen years old summer and began my new life in America. I The opportunity of coming to the America that my parent had given me as my thirteen years old birthday present was the optimal gift ever in my entire life. Through this experience, I felt my parent’s unending love and how much they care and worry about me. They would use an abundant amount of money in order to provide me a better education. I promised them I would succeed in the America and go back to Hong Kong as a high education scholar. I love my mom very much and I will repay her with my action.

Before the formation of the international organizations and regimes, the international system was characterized by wars, tensions and fears. The organizations were formed to bring sanity and restore peace in the world. Unfortunately, the League was unable to prevent the occurrence of the Second World War due to its poor structure. This paper will compare the effectivenes s of the two world organizations. Firstly, the organizations differ in that the United Nations receive overwhelmingly support from the superpower. The League of Nation never received any support from the world powers. States were initially concerned about their interests. For instance, Britain and France supported the rearmament program in Germany since they feared the resurgence of Russia. Unlike the League of Nations, the United Nations has the power to utilize force in solving conflicts. This is due to the realization that it reaches a time when the only language understood by man is violence. For instance, the United Nations Security Council slapped various economic and political sanctions to the Egyptian and Libyan regimes. The UN Security Council resorted to the use of no fly zone policy to enforce compliance in the desert states. The League of Nations could not achieve its aims and objectives since it could not utilize force to restore peace and democracy. In Germany for inst ance, the League of Nations engaged Germany in extensive discussions to drop its rearmament program. The organization bent low by trying to appease Germany to comply with its policies. The use of force was considered violation of state sovereignty and independence. The United Nations adjusted some policies of the defunct League of Nations mainly due to the changing nature of the international system. World leaders noted that war had to be avoided under all costs. The Second World War proved that each actor in the international system was not safe. The use of weapons of mass destruction showed that world security was very important. Another difference is that actors in the international system are willing to support and act on the proposals of the United Nations. After the First World War, the major powers never cared about the interests of other states. This was a big problem to the League of Nations since it could not receive funding from the well to do states such as the US. In fact, the powerful states use the organization to further their interests. However, the two organizations share many things including the organs, fundamental objectives and ideologies. The international system exists according to the Hobbestain state of nature, which was a big problem to the two organizations.
